  • The profession is committed to health, lifestyle and quality of life. This holistic approach incorporates a broad range of physical and physiological therapeutic interventions and aids. Specifically, physiotherapists improve clients' quality of life by:
    • Promoting optimal mobility, physical activity and overall health and wellness.
    • Preventing disease, injury, and disability.

Physiotherapy FAQs

Answer

What should I bring for my treatment?

To effectively assess and treat your area of injury, you should wear some loose, comfortable clothing that does not restrict your movement.

Answer

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Our physiotherapist, Helena, will assess you using detailed history-taking as well as specific physical tests and measures, such as flexibility and range of motion. Helena will then analyze the assessment findings and use clinical reasoning to establish a diagnosis. Together, you will explore your current abilities and functional needs so Helena can ensure treatments are planned that are consistent with your goals and general health status, while addressing any current condition that needs attention.

Answer

Why do I receive a different treatment than another person with same
injury?

Physical therapy is individualized to meet each person's individual needs. Each person may respond differently to therapy. People have different types of bodies, different patterns of movement, different alignments, different habits, different levels of health, and more. Our Physiotherapist monitors each individual and develops a program unique to their body and needs. This can and often does result in a different treatment for what might be named the same injury.

Answer

How long will it take before I feel better?

Generally speaking, one can not say a specific amount of time that it takes a person to start feeling better. Typically, your rate of healing is dependent upon many factors such as age, type of injury, length of time since the injury, initial care, diet and overall health, adherence to exercises being performed at home as prescribed and maintaining appointments. What we can say is that physiotherapy will help to stimulate your body's healing response.

Answer

What education is required to be a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists must complete a university degree that provides a foundation of modern science for the profession. Then, entry-level physiotherapy education takes place in one of fourteen university programs across Canada. Entry programs also offer Clinical Master's and/or thesis based Master's and Doctorate programs in rehabilitation or physiotherapy-related disciplines.

Answer

What type of training do physiotherapists receive?

In addition to obtaining their university education, professional practice or clinical education is also required. Students must participate in a minimum of 1,025 supervised professional practice hours carried out in a variety of settings. The combination of clinical and academic education provides opportunities to integrate knowledge, skills and behaviours required for practice.

Answer

Is your physiotherapist registered?

Yes. Helena is licensed to practice with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. All licensed physiotherapists are regulated in Ontario under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).

Answer

Why do people in hospitals not pay for physiotherapy?

Physiotherapist services provided to patients who require hospital admission are covered by OHIP in Ontario. Not all physiotherapy services provided in a hospital clinic may be paid in full by OHIP.

Answer

I was referred to another physiotherapy clinic by my doctor. Can I come to
your clinic instead?

Yes, it is your right to decide where you receive treatment. You should ensure that the person delivering your care is a physiotherapist registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and your massage therapist registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Answer

I was involved in a workplace injury or motor vehicle accident. Do you treat
people with Workplace Safety & Insurance Board(WSIB) or Auto Insurance
Claims?

Yes, we would be happy to be your treatment provider. We are able to bill WSIB or your auto insurance provider directly for your treatment.

Motor Vehicle Accident?

See us today. It's in your best interest to do so.

Delaying could cost you both physically and financially.

An assessment by one of our chiropractors or physiotherapist will be covered by your insurance company after any motor vehicle accident.

You have the choice of which health care professionals you trust and wish to support you after any accident. Insurance companies may recommend certain doctors or practitioners they know of, but the choice is yours. Who you choose will not affect amounts that will be available to you from your insurance company.

Our provincial government in accordance with the Insurance Act, provides specific direction to health care practitioners for regarding amounts insurance companies can cover for an initial assessment and for rehabilitation treatments. These amounts are on a sliding scale based upon time passed since the accident not time passed since your assessment .

Therefore, it is very important that you contact our office to make an appointment for an assessment as soon possible after your motor vehicle accident. Even if your insurance company has not been in touch with you, it is in your physical and financial interests to arrange an assessment appointment soon after an accident.
